La Conquesta del Pol Sud is a company formed by Carles Fernández Giua and Eugenio Szwarcer in Barcelona, in 2010. At the beginning of the journey of the company, the interest is focused on contemporary dramaturgy that raises current issues (unemployment, the idea of real democracy, civil disobedience, alzheimer …) and imply a challenge for research on the Scenic language Now we’ve reached a moment in which we are looking for new forms. We find ourselves more often interested in reality as theatrical material.

The Erba’s play anticipates the deep economic crisis that has marked the social and economic life of the last years. How does the economic system where we live in? Is neoliberalism a contraddiction with the essential needs of the human being? ‘Vendedores is a multidiciplinary project about the mad world of sales, the dissintration of the individual at the hands of the company.

‘The Conquest of the South Pole’ by Manfred Karge (Temporada Alta and Sala Beckett, 2009. Quim Masó Prize for theatrical productions).
Storytelling as a means to escape reality for the terminally-unemployed. A scenic poem about failure. A group of long term unemployed men discover in the story of the Conquest of the South Pole an impulse to continue living. In this case, the game of theatre exorcizes the demons of deseperation and the lack of motivations to live.

“Macbeth” by W. Shakespeare (Nau Ivanow, 2011), addapted by Carles Fernández Giua
The classic tragedy driven by image as a narritive vehicle.
The classic tragedy with a mise en scene driven by image as a narrative element. Macbeth is the tragedy about fear, about the mechanisms that human mind sets to protect herself to the terror of losing everything. In the mise en scene of this text we set a dramaturgy with only five actors on stage. Our Macbeth is a minimal synthesis of the shakespearian play.

“Against democracy” and “Against love” by Esteve Soler (Sala Beckett , 2011 and La Seca – Espai Brossa , 2013). Esteve Soler’s plays are focused on the lose of meaning of essential words like Progress, Democracy, Love. Soler force the scenic language to the field of allusion, stridency, incorrectness and even the unsightly. We can say that Esteve Soler is one of the more independent and personal voices in the present european dramaturgy.

“Si no ens paguen, no paguem! [“If they don’t pay, we don’t!”] by the Nobel Award Dario Fo, adapted by Carles Fernández Giua and Elies Barberà (Teatro Tantarantana, 2013). In collaboration with “Teatre de l’Enjòlit”. A political farce about civil disubidience. We departed from the classic by Dario Fo to face the issue of the options of the citizens in front of the behaviour of a political power which is under the rule of the economic interests.

“Variaciones sobre el modelo de Kraepelin” [Variations about the Kraepelin’s model] by Davide Carnevali (Sala Beckett, 2012).
A multidisciplinary performance based on the loss of memory. In this project, we worked on fragmentation and for us it was a first approach to the genre of non fiction. The “Variations” is our most experimental performance and it will define our formal interests for the future. In this performance we created a wide space for the interaction between projected images and acting.
